Club Waters

Below you can see all the waters that Radcliffe angling society manage. Each lake displayed will show you different views of the water along with the species of fish, the best methods and baits, along with a map of the water and directions to the water from Bury, Bolton and Radcliffe. Other general information may also be shown.

Starmount, Bottom Lodge

This is the first lodge that you come to when you approach Starmount Lodges. You can only fish on three sides of the lodge, the side parallel to the main road is not fishable because no access is available and it is covered with reeds.The water is very shallow, but do not let this put you off fishing because it is well stocked with fish, although it fishes better in the summer months because of the shallow depth. There are twelve proper fishing platforms of which some have steps for easy access and one other peg which has no platform but can be fished.

You can park at the side of the lodge on the road or on the car park provided just past the lodge. This water will be used for our junior coaching sessions and junior matches. This water can also be fished on day tickets, which can be purchased on the bank from the bailiffs or at the local tackle shops, which can be found by clicking here

Starmount, Middle Lodge

This is the second lodge that you come to when you approach Starmount Lodges. You can fish on all four sides of the lodge but most pegs are on the longer sides of the lodge. The water is very deep and is well stocked with fish. There are proper fishing platforms of which some have steps for easy access. You can park at the side of the lodge on the road or on the car park provided just past the lodge. This water will be used for our junior coaching sessions and junior matches. This water can also be fished on day tickets, which can be purchased on the bank from the bailiffs or at the local tackle shops, which can be found by clicking here - Tackle Shops The main species of fish in this lodge are:- Roach, Perch, Bream, Tench, Rudd, Crucian Carp, Chub, and some large Carp. The best baits for this water are:- Maggots, Castors, Pinkies, Sweetcorn and Pellets. The best methods tend to be fishing the pole, waggler or ledger. The lodge was stocked with 1,000 F1 Carp between 6-7 inches in 2015. 2500 Crucian Carp added in 2018, 250 mixed mirror and common carp added in May 2019. We have at present an ongoing annual stocking programme. As with all fishing venues please take your litter home.

Starmount, Top Lodge

This is the third lodge that you come to when you approach Starmount Lodges. If you go through the turnstile at the right hand side of the car park and take the path to the left of the middle lodge you will approach some steps which will take you to the top lodge. You can also walk in between the bottom and middle lodges following the path which gently slopes up to the top lodge (suitable for trolleys). You can fish on all of the four sides of the lodge. The water is very deep and is well stocked with fish. There are proper fishing platforms and there is a path all the way around the lodge. You can park on the car park provided just past the other two lodges or on the road .This water can also be fished on day tickets, which can be purchased on the bank from the bailiffs or at the local tackle shops, which can be found by clicking here - Tackle Shops .

Night fishing is allowed on this water - this is the only water where this is allowed. An overnight permit must be obtained before fishing. This permit can only be obtained from the club secretary. Bivvies are allowed but please do not obstruct the public right of way around the lodge.

As with all fishing venues please take your litter home.

The main species of fish in this lodge are:- Roach, Perch, Bream, Rudd, Chub, Crucian Carp, and some large Carp. The best baits for this water are:- Maggots, Castors, Worms, Sweetcorn and Pellets.The best methods tend to be fishing the pole, waggler or ledger.

18 Carp from 7lb to 9lb added to this water in May 2019. The largest carp caught to date is 27lbs in 2023.

From Bolton: Follow the A58 Bury Road towards Bury. As you pass Morrison's supermarket on the left and the Bingo building, you will see a signpost for the A665 to Radcliffe on the right. Take this road and after a few hundred yards take the first road on the right – Browns Road, which is opposite the garden centre.The lodges are on the right hand side of the road which you can park on, but if you go past the two lodges you will come to a car park on the right.

From Bury: Follow the A58 Bolton Road towards Bolton. Keep on this road until you see a sign for the A665 to Radcliffe on the left. Take this road and after a few hundred yards take the first road on the right – Browns Road, which is opposite the garden centre.The lodges are on the right hand side of the road which you can park on, but if you go past the two lodges you will come to a car park on the right.

From Radcliffe: Take the A665 through Radcliffe going towards Bolton and Little Lever. This road is called Water Street changing to Bolton Road. Keep on this road until you get to a mini roundabout and go straight across into Countess Lane. You will then come to another mini roundabout, take the first left onto Radcliffe Moor Road. Follow this road going past the Sparkling Clog pub on your right and when you get to the garden centre on your right, take the next road on the left sign posted Browns Road.

Day permits can be bought on the bank from the bailiff.

Redbridge Lodge

Entry via Lock Code - Please contact Colin on 07950 487 131 with name and permit number for current lock code.

To access this water a lock code is required which can be obtained from the club secretary and the gate must be locked at all times. Only two sides of the lodge can be accessed for fishing. The main species of fish in this lodge are:- Roach, Perch, Tench, Bream, Rudd, Gudgeon, Crucian Carp and Carp. A good head of Carp exist in this water. The best baits for this water are:- Maggots, Castors, Pinkies, Worms, Sweetcorn, Bread, Luncheon Meat and Pellets. Boilies can be used for the Carp but please be careful with the amount of boilies used to pre-bait. The best methods tend to be fishing the pole, ledger or waggler. The Lodge was stocked with 2,000 carp between 8-10 inches along with 400 roach in 2012 and a further 2,000 carp between 4-6 inches in 2013. An ongoing fish stocking programme for all of our waters in currently being undertaken.

From Bolton:- Follow the A58 Bury Road towards Bury. As you approach Morrison's supermarket on the left at Breightment, you will see a set of traffic lights just before the supermarket, take the left turn onto Milnthorpe Road. When you get to the end of this road turn right onto Deepdale Road.Keep on this road which starts to go uphill and when you get past Winchester Way on the left, take the next right onto Red Lane.Follow this road which goes down a steep hill passing Breightment golf club on your left and take the next right, which takes you through two concrete pillars with an hairdresser's on the left. Follow this road until you see a concrete wall on your left and at the end of this wall you will see the entrance to the lodge. You can park alongside the wall but please do not park where signs says 'No Parking'.From Bury:-Follow the A58 Bolton Road towards Bolton.Keep on this road until you pass 'Blockbusters' on your left and take the next right at the traffic lights. This takes you onto Ainsworth Road heading towards Ainsworth village. Keep going along this road passing through the village and when the road forks to the right, keep going straight ahead. You will start to go downhill passing cottages on both sides of the road and you need to take the next left which is just after the Red Bridge Pub.This takes you through two concrete pillars with an hairdresser's on the left. Follow this road until you see a concrete wall on your left and at the end of this wall you will see the entrance to the lodge. You can park alongside the wall but please do not park where signs says 'No Parking'.

From Radcliffe:-Take the A665 through Radcliffe going towards Bolton and Little Lever.This road is called Water Street changing to Bolton Road.Keep on this road until you get to a set of traffic lights and turn right onto Ainsworth Rd.Follow this road until you get to the main set of traffic lights with Bolton to the left and Bury to the right. Go straight across onto Starling Road passing the Ainsworth Arms pub on the left. Keep on this road until you get to the next junction with a set of traffic lights and turn left onto Cockey Moor Road heading towards Ainsworth village. Keep going along this road passing through the village and when the road forks to the right, keep going straight ahead. You will start to go downhill passing cottages on both sides of the road and you need to take the next left which is just after the Red Bridge Pub.This takes you through two concrete pillars with an hairdresser's on the left. Follow this road until you see a concrete wall on your left and at the end of this wall you will see the entrance to the lodge. You can park alongside the wall but please do not park where signs says 'No Parking'.

Redbank Lodge

You can only fish on three sides of the lodge due to trees and steep banking. There are around 8 pegs on the left side of the lodge and 3 pegs at the start of the lodge. There are around 6 pegs on the right hand side of the lodge on decking. The main species of fish in this lodge are:- Crucian Carp, Roach, Perch, Tench, Pike and a small number of Carp. The best baits for this water are:- Maggots, Castors, Pinkies,Worms and Sweetcorn. The best methods tend to be fishing the pole, ledger or waggler. This water can be fished on a day ticket.

Redbank Lodge 2

You can fish on three sides of this lodge. There are no defined fishing pegs but there are around 20 -30 fishable locations. The main species of fish in this lodge are Crucian Carp, Roach, Perch and Pike. The best baits for this water are Maggots, Castors, Pinkies, Worms and Sweetcorn. The best methods tend to be fishing the pole, ledger or waggler. This water can be fished on a day ticket.

From Bolton:- Follow the A58 Bury Road towards Bury.At the set of traffic lights opposite the Ainsworth Arms pub, turn right onto Ainsworth Road which leads to Radcliffe.Follow this road until you see the Victoria pub on your right, turn right before the pub onto Lowe Street.See the 3 different routes below for further directions, depending on where you want to park.

From Bury:- Follow the A58 Bolton Road towards Bolton.At the set of traffic lights opposite the Ainsworth Arms pub, turn left onto Ainsworth Road which leads to Radcliffe.Follow this road until you see the Victoria pub on your right, turn right before the pub onto Lowe Street.See the 3 different routes below for further directions, depending on where you want to park.

Alternatives routes for the above.

Route 1:- Follow this street until you get to a mini round about at the end of the road and turn left and then first right into Coronation Road.Take the first right into Colshaw Close South where you can park, but please ensure that you do not block any drives.Follow the path at the end of the close, following the fence on the left and at the end you will see a lodge facing you (Lodge 2)and one on your left (Lodge 1).

Route 2:- Follow this street until you get to a mini round about at the end of the road and turn right into Pilkington Road and then second left into Stainton Road. Take the first left into Stainton Close where you can park, but please ensure that you do not block any drives.Follow the path at the end of the close, between the fences on the left and right and you will see the first lodge (Lodge 2) on your left. Keep following the path and you will see the other lodge (Lodge 1) facing you.

Route 3:- Follow this street until you get to a mini round about at the end of the road and turn right into Pilkington Road and then turn left at the end of the road into Turks Road.Take the second left into Abbey Close leading to Kirkstall Gardens where you can park, but please ensure that you do not block any drives.Follow the road between the houses and you will see the first lodge (Lodge 2) on your left. Keep following the path and you will see the other lodge (Lodge 1) facing you.

Armitage Vale Lodge

You can only fish on two sides of the lodge due to its location. The water is quite shallow close in, but there's a deeper channel in the middle. There are 8 fishing platforms on one side of the lodge with decking and around 8 pegs on the other side. The water is covered in weed close in and we have tried various methods of trying to remove it. You can park at the side of the lodge on the road or just past the lodge on some spare land. The main species of fish in this lodge are:- Crucian Carp, Roach, Perch, Tench, Bream, Rudd, Pike.and the odd Carp. The best baits for this water are:- Maggots, Castors, Pinkies, Worms, Sweetcorn and Pellets. The best methods tend to be fishing the pole, ledger or waggler. A barrier code is required for this water which can be obtained from the club secretary.

From Bolton:- Follow the A58 Bury Road towards Bury.Heading towards Breightment you will pass Morrison's supermarket on the left and a Bingo building, keep on this road and you will pass a petrol station on the left, then Boundary garage and when you see the Little Feet Day Nursery just past the garage, turn left into Vale Street. Follow this road along which then splits into two roads, take the right hand road and you will see the lodge on your right. You can park just past the lodge on your right and just a bit further on the left

From Bury:- Follow the A58 Bolton Road towards Bolton heading towards Breightment. You will pass the Ainsworth Arms on your right at a set of traffic lights. Keep going along this road and you will eventually pass a turning on the left signposted 'Little Lever'. The road starts to go downhill and at the bottom of the hill you need to turn right into Vale Street, just before the Little Feet Day Nursery on your right.Follow this road along which then splits into two roads, take the right hand road and you will see the lodge on your right. You can park just past the lodge on your right and just a bit further on the left.

From Radcliffe:-Take the A665 through Radcliffe going towards Bolton and Little Lever.This road is called Water Street changing to Bolton Road. Keep on this road until you get to a set of traffic lights and turn right onto Ainsworth Rd. Follow this road until you get to the main set of traffic lights with Bolton to the left and Bury to the right. Turn left heading towards Bolton.Keep going along this road and you will eventually pass a turning on the left signposted 'Little Lever'.The road starts to go downhill and at the bottom of the hill you need to turn right into Vale Street, just before the Little Feet Day Nursery on your right.Follow this road along which then splits into two roads, take the right hand road and you will see the lodge on your right. You can park just past the lodge on your right and just a bit further on the left.
