A LOCAL TRADITION
A club with roots.
And a future.
Founded in 1907, Radcliffe Angling Society is part of the fishing life of Radcliffe and Bolton.
Today, the society offers seven waters across four local venues: Starmount, Red Bank, Red Bridge and Armitage Vale. The club brings together annual members, day-ticket anglers and people discovering fishing for the first time.
Its constitution sets out two lasting aims: protecting a cleaner aquatic environment and bringing members together for their shared benefit.

THE LANDSCAPE BEHIND THE FISHING
From industry
to open water.
Starmount's landscape has a history of its own. The lodges lie on the former Starmount bleachworks and Lomax paper mill site in the Blackshaw Brook valley.
Following industrial closure in the 1970s, the site was reclaimed around 2005. The valley became a place for recreation and wildlife, with the lodges managed by Radcliffe Angling Society.

Care for the waters
Fish stocking, repairs and volunteer work parties help keep the lodges ready for future seasons. The club's 2025 news records investment across several waters.
02
Share the knowledge
The society has a tradition of junior coaching at Starmount. Community sessions welcome all to try fishing.
03
A club run by its members
The society's constitution provides for an elected committee, member meetings and an annual general meeting, alongside a commitment to equal opportunity.
